The
Counties
Cabarrus County is a dynamic place to live and work. Home
to the #1 tourist destination in the state - Concord Mills
- as well as Lowe's Motor Speedway, Reed Gold Mine and beautiful
parks and athletic facilities, Cabarrus County is well-known
throughout the region as an attractive and growing community.
In 1753, colonial governor Matthew Rowan (d. 1769) signed a bill
creating Rowan County and Saint Luke's Parish. Salisbury
(the county seat) was established two years later. Rowan was the
largest and most populated county in the colony and in the state
until current boundaries were drawn in 1836. Rowan County,
being centrally located, has great access to two international
airports.
The North Carolina Research Campus
The NC Research Campus, based in Kannapolis, is a stunning
joint venture between Dole Foods, Duke University and the University
of North Carolina system. The North Carolina Research Campus
is a private-public venture created to foster collaboration and
further advancements in the fields of biotechnology, nutrition
and health. It is envisioned that the campus will be the
world's epicenter of nutrition and disease research. A
place where researchers walk to work, talented high school students
mingle with internationally renowned scientists, and citizens of
Kannapolis find opportunity for solid employment and growth.
Built on the site of a former Pillowtex textile mill, this campus-like
redevelopment forges a bold new path for the City of Kannapolis
and Counties.
The NCRC and other opportunities within Cabarrus
and Rowan Counties have become catalysts to transform the
Counties into 21st Century communities.
