About
The Region
Cabarrus
and Rowan County are experiencing an explosion of growth in population
and development with new hotels, attractions and venues on the
horizon. Underway in Kannapolis is construction of the new North
Carolina Research Campus (NCRC), a joint venture between Dole
Foods, Castle and Cooke, Duke University, the City of Kannapolis,
and the University of North Carolina system. The Core Lab,
the UNC and N.C. State buildings were opened in October 20, 2008
with additional construction planned.
Nestled in the gently rolling countryside of the Carolina Piedmont, Cabarrus
County is located in south-central North Carolina just a half-hour northeast
of the burgeoning City of Charlotte. The region is home to more than 1.8 million
people and includes the communities of Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, Mt. Pleasant,
and Midland.
Situated between High Rock Lake to the east and Lake
Norman in the west, Rowan County is one of North Carolina’s
oldest and most scenic communities. The current population of 136,254
people lives in its 523 square miles including the 10 municipalities
of China Grove, Cleveland, East Spencer, Faith, Granite Quarry,
Kannapolis (partial), Landis, Rockwell, Salisbury, and Spencer.
